Updated: 29 August 2026 Official-service links checked for this guide

Birth registration in Telangana is administered through the State's civil-registration system and local registration authorities. Online search facilities are available through official Telangana MeeSeva services for CDMA areas and GHMC.

Choose the correct search: use the CDMA search for records maintained by municipal bodies under the Commissioner & Director of Municipal Administration. For records under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, use the GHMC search.

Open the official search service

Select either the CDMA Birth Record Search or the GHMC Birth Record Search from the official links above.

Select the registration area

For CDMA records, select the district, location name and registration unit where applicable. For GHMC records, select the relevant circle.

Enter available birth details

Fill in the required fields and as many identifying details as you know. The exact fields differ between the CDMA and GHMC systems.

Submit the search

Review the information entered and submit the form. Matching registration details, if available in the online database, will be displayed by the official system.

Use the official certificate or application service

If the record is found, follow the portal instructions for the available certificate service. If you already submitted a MeeSeva application, use the MeeSeva application-status facility to track it.

Details You May Need for the Search

The official search forms may ask for some of the following information:

Search tip: Do not assume every field must be filled unless the portal marks it as mandatory. Use the spelling recorded at the time of registration. Older or recently migrated records may require assistance from the concerned Registrar or MeeSeva centre.

How to Check Birth Certificate Application Status

The Telangana MeeSeva portal provides facilities to check application status and search a MeeSeva certificate using the application number. It also provides a separate GHMC Birth/Death application-status facility.

Visit the official Telangana MeeSeva portal and use the relevant status or certificate-search option.

Current Law on Birth Registration

Governing law: Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, as amended by the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023, together with the applicable Telangana Registration of Births and Deaths Rules.

2023 amendment: The amended provisions came into force on 1 October 2023 and introduced, among other changes, digital registration and electronic delivery of certificates and national/state databases of registered births and deaths.

Situation General legal position
Birth reported within normal period The normal reporting period is 21 days from the date of occurrence.
Reported after 21 days but within 30 days Delayed registration may be made on payment of the prescribed late fee.
Reported after 30 days but within one year Section 13(2), as amended, requires written permission of the District Registrar or other prescribed authority, the prescribed fee and a self-attested document in the prescribed form and manner.
Reported after one year Section 13(3), as amended, requires an order of the District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, or an Executive Magistrate authorised by the District Magistrate having jurisdiction, after verification and payment of the prescribed fee.
Correction of an erroneous entry Section 15 permits correction or cancellation by the Registrar, subject to the applicable rules and satisfaction of the statutory requirements.

For the current statutory text, see the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 on India Code.

Birth Certificate as Proof of Date and Place of Birth

The 2023 amendment provides that, for a person born on or after 1 October 2023, the birth certificate is to be used as the document proving date and place of birth for specified purposes under the Act, including admission to an educational institution, driving licence, voter list, marriage registration, certain public appointments, passport and Aadhaar, and other purposes that may be determined by the Central Government.

Birth Certificate Application Form

The Telangana State Portal lists an official application form for Birth Certificate under its Public Utility Forms section. Use the State Portal or MeeSeva for the current service workflow and applicable fee information.

What If the Online Record Is Not Found?

An unsuccessful online search does not by itself establish that no birth record exists. Recheck the registration year, spelling, registration unit or GHMC circle. If necessary, contact the Registrar/local body having jurisdiction over the place where the birth occurred or use a MeeSeva centre for the appropriate service.

Correction in a Birth Record

Corrections are not the same as a fresh online search. Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act allows the Registrar, subject to the applicable rules, to correct or cancel an entry where the statutory conditions are satisfied. Use the relevant correction service or approach the competent registration authority with supporting documents.
