- Section 15: permits correction or cancellation of an erroneous, fraudulent or improperly made entry, subject to the applicable rules.
- Section 17: allows a search of the birth/death register and provides for obtaining a birth or death certificate electronically or otherwise, subject to applicable rules and fees.

Birth Registration Time Limit and Delayed Registration
Under the Civil Registration System, births are ordinarily to be reported within 21 days of occurrence. Where registration is delayed, Section 13 of the Act provides the legal route for registration after the prescribed period.
| Delay | General legal position |
|---|---|
| Within the ordinary reporting period | Birth should be reported to the concerned Registrar within the prescribed period. |
| After the normal period but within 30 days | Registration may be completed on payment of the prescribed late fee. |
| After 30 days but within one year | Written permission of the District Registrar or other prescribed authority is required, together with the prescribed documents and fee. |
| After one year | An order of the competent District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate or authorised Executive Magistrate is required under the amended Section 13, subject to verification and prescribed fee. |
Correction of a Rajkot Birth Certificate
If the birth register contains an error in the name, spelling, date or another material entry, the matter is not corrected merely by editing a downloaded copy. A correction has to be made in the official register through the Registrar under Section 15 and the applicable Gujarat procedure.
RMC also lists a Birth & Death Details Change service/form in its official forms section. Applicants should check the current RMC requirements for supporting documents, affidavits/declarations, fees and verification before filing a correction request.

What If the Online Record Is Not Found?
An unsuccessful online search does not necessarily mean that no registered record exists. Older records, records outside the online coverage displayed by RMC, incomplete registration numbers, jurisdictional differences or later corrections can affect search results. In such cases, contact the Birth & Death Department/Health Branch of Rajkot Municipal Corporation and request a record search or certified certificate through the available municipal procedure.
