How to Apply for a Haryana Death Certificate Online

Current Law Governing Death Registration
Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969: Registration of deaths and issuance of certificates are governed by this central law. The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023 came into force on 1 October 2023.
Digital registration and electronic certificates: The 2023 amendment introduced digital-registration provisions and electronic delivery of birth and death certificates.
Delayed registration: Section 13 now provides different procedures depending on the length of delay. Where the information is given after 30 days but within one year, written permission of the District Registrar or other prescribed authority is required. If the information is given after one year, registration requires an order of the District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, or an authorised Executive Magistrate having jurisdiction, after verification and payment of the prescribed fee.
Death Registered More Than One Year Late
If a death was never registered and more than one year has passed, a normal certificate-copy application is not enough. Under Section 13(3) of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, the death must first be registered through the delayed-registration procedure after the competent Magistrate verifies the event and passes the required order.
Correction in a Haryana Death Certificate
If the death is already registered but an entry in the register is erroneous, the appropriate route is generally a correction application rather than a fresh registration. Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act deals with correction or cancellation of erroneous or fraudulent entries, subject to the applicable rules.
