Kerala Hindu Marriage Certificate Online: Search, View and Download

Learn how to find a registered Hindu marriage certificate in Kerala, check available records and obtain a certificate in English or Malayalam using the official civil registration services.

Kerala maintains electronic marriage registration records through its Local Self Government Department (LSGD). The government offers K-SMART citizen services and the Sevana civil registration system. The available search and certificate options may differ by the type of marriage registration, local body and age of the record.

How to search a Kerala Hindu marriage certificate online

Open an official portal. Visit K-SMART or Sevana Civil Registration. Older records may be accessible through the Sevana Quick Certificate Search, where the service remains available.
Choose the marriage certificate service. Look for Marriage Registration, Marriage Certificate or Certificate Search. On the legacy Sevana interface, select Marriage Certificate (Hindu) or its Malayalam option if displayed.
Select the registration authority. Choose the district, local body type (Grama Panchayat, Municipality or Municipal Corporation) and the local body where the marriage was registered.
Enter the marriage details. Provide the date of marriage, names of the husband and wife, and any registration number or other details requested by the portal. Complete the verification code if required.
Submit the search. Review the matching record and use the available view, print or download option. The portal may require sign-in or verification for some services.

Details needed for certificate search

District and the relevant local self-government institution.
Date of marriage as recorded in the register.
Names of both spouses as entered at registration.
Registration number or application reference, if available or requested.

How to view, print or download in English or Malayalam

After locating the record, choose the certificate language or format offered by the portal. The earlier Sevana search interface included Hindu marriage certificate options in English and Malayalam. If the current portal does not display a language selection, use the format made available or contact the registering local body about a certified copy.

Save the generated PDF if a download option appears, and check the names, date, local body, registration particulars and any digital verification information. A search result or application-status screen should not be treated as a marriage certificate unless it is actually issued as one.

Applicable legal provisions for Hindu marriages in Kerala

Hindu Marriage Act, 1955

Section 5 sets out conditions for a Hindu marriage, including that neither party has a spouse living and the statutory age conditions. Section 7 concerns solemnization according to customary rites and ceremonies. Section 8 provides for registration of Hindu marriages to facilitate proof of marriage and permits the State Government to make registration rules. Under Section 8(5), omission to register does not by itself affect the validity of an otherwise valid Hindu marriage.

Kerala Registration of Marriages (Common) Rules, 2008

These rules establish a common registration framework for marriages solemnized in Kerala, irrespective of religion. Rule 5 concerns the Local Registrar of Marriages (Common); Rule 8 provides for maintenance of the common marriage register; Rule 9 governs the registration procedure and ordinary time limit, including submission of the memorandum within 45 days of solemnization; and Rule 10 provides a procedure for registration after one year, subject to the prescribed permission and requirements. Late registration and applicable fees should be checked against current rules and official instructions.

Hindu marriage certificate versus common marriage certificate

A certificate issued from a Hindu marriage register and a certificate issued under Kerala's common marriage registration system are not necessarily the same record. Select the certificate category matching the actual registration. The LSGD certificates page lists Hindu and common marriage certificates separately.

If the marriage certificate is not found

Check spelling, date and the local body in which the marriage was actually registered.
Try the correct certificate category: Hindu or Common.
Check whether the registration is still pending or whether the record is available only through the registering office.
If an older Sevana link is unavailable, start from the official K-SMART services page.
For incorrect particulars, request correction through the designated official service or the relevant Local Registrar. Do not submit a fresh registration merely to correct an existing record.
