Jharkhand Caste Certificate: Apply Online, Check Status & Download

Current guide to caste-certificate services in Jharkhand for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) applicants through the official JharSewa portal.

Current JharSewa position: caste-certificate services are now listed separately by category. The principal SC, ST and OBC services accept applications online and through kiosks. Registration on the portal is required, and JharSewa generally lists a 30-day delivery period after submission, excluding government holidays.

How to Apply for a Caste Certificate in Jharkhand

  1. Open the official JharSewa portal.
  2. Register as a citizen if you do not already have an account.
  3. Sign in and choose the appropriate caste-certificate service for SC, ST, OBC or another applicable category.
  4. Complete the applicant, address, caste/community and other information requested in the live form.
  5. Upload the supporting documents listed for that specific service.
  6. Submit the application and save the application/reference number or acknowledgement.
  7. If you prefer assisted filing, use an authorised kiosk/Pragya Kendra where the service permits kiosk submission.

Because JharSewa maintains separate services for different caste categories and certain territorial or migrant cases, do not rely on an old generic "Issue of Caste Certificate" form. Use the service currently applicable to your category.

Documents and Eligibility

The exact enclosure list depends on the selected service. Current JharSewa listings may ask for identity, residence and caste/community-related supporting records.

RequirementExamples shown in current JharSewa listings
Identity proof Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, PAN Card, Passport, Driving Licence and other accepted identity records, depending on the service.
Residence / ordinary residence proof Ration Card, voter record, residence certificate, utility bill or another supporting document accepted for the selected service.
Caste/community proof Existing caste certificate, family/community record or other supporting evidence required by the specific SC, ST or OBC service.
Additional documents The live portal may require category-specific or purpose-specific documents. Migrant and special-area services have separate requirements.

Always check the enclosure list displayed on the particular JharSewa service page before submitting the application. Requirements can differ between SC, ST, OBC, migrant and territorial variants.

Check Application Status and Download Caste Certificate

Legal Framework for Caste Certificates

Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe status is constitutionally linked to Articles 341 and 342 of the Constitution of India. Socially and educationally backward classes are addressed in Article 342A, including the constitutional framework for the Central List and State/Union Territory lists.

In Jharkhand, delivery of notified public services is governed by the Jharkhand Rajya Sewa Dene ki Guarantee Act, 2011. The Act provides a right to obtain notified services within the stipulated time and enables the State Government to notify services, designated officers, appellate authorities and applicable time limits.
