Search District and Taluka Court Case Status by CNR Number

A CNR number is a unique case identifier used in the eCourts system. If you know the CNR number of a District or Taluka Court case, you can use it to retrieve the current case status and available case history directly from the official eCourts Services portal.

Current official requirement: Enter the 16-character alphanumeric CNR number without any hyphen or space. After entering the Captcha, click Search to view the current status and history of the case.

What is a CNR Number?

CNR is the unique alphanumeric number assigned to a case in the eCourts system. It contains 16 characters combining letters and numbers. The official eCourts service uses the CNR to identify the case and display its available status and history.

A CNR should be entered exactly as recorded, but without hyphens or spaces. For example, if the number is shown with spacing in a document, remove the spaces before entering it on the portal.

Steps to search a case using CNR Number

  1. Open the official eCourts Services portal. Use the official service button above.
  2. Locate "Search by CNR number". The CNR search is available on the eCourts Services home page.
  3. Enter the CNR Number. Type the complete 16-character alphanumeric CNR without any hyphen or space.
  4. Enter the Captcha. Type the characters displayed by the official service. An audio Captcha may also be available.
  5. Click "Search". The current case status and available history will be displayed.
  6. Check the case particulars. Verify the parties, court, case number and other details to ensure that you have opened the correct case.

What information can be viewed?

The information available through eCourts may include case details, current case status, names of parties and advocates, Acts or sections, FIR-related information where applicable, and the history of case hearings. The exact information displayed depends on the data maintained by the concerned court establishment.

Tip: The official eCourts website also states that case status can be obtained by SMS using the format ECOURTS <space> CNR Number sent to the number currently published on the official eCourts website. Because SMS service details may change, verify the current destination number on the official eCourts site before sending an SMS.

If you do not know the CNR Number

If the CNR is not available, use the Case Status section of eCourts Services. Cases can be searched through other details such as Case Number, Party Name, Filing Number, Advocate Name, FIR Number, Act Type or Case Type.
