What is a Filing Number?
A Filing Number is the number assigned to a case at the time of filing or institution. It is different from the registered Case Number and the 16-character CNR number. The Filing Number search is designed to locate a case using the filing identifier and the year in which the case was filed.
Steps to search a case by Filing Number
- Open the official eCourts Services Case Status page.
- Select the State and District where the case is pending, followed by the appropriate Court Complex and Establishment where the portal requires these selections.
- Select "Filing Number". This option is available in the Case Status search section.
- Select the Case Type if the current web form requires it for the selected court establishment.
- Enter the Filing Number. Type the filing number assigned to the case.
- Enter the Case Filing Year. Use the year in which the case was filed, not necessarily the year of later registration or disposal.
- Enter the Captcha. The official web portal currently uses a 5-character alphanumeric Captcha.
- Click "Go". Matching case results will be displayed.
- Open the relevant case. Click View or the relevant case number to see the available Case History.
What information can the search show?
Depending on the records maintained by the concerned court establishment, the case-history page may include case details, current status, party information, hearing history and available orders. The exact fields can vary by court and case.
If you do not know the Filing Number
eCourts provides several alternative ways to search for a case. Depending on the information available to you, you may search by CNR Number, Case Number, Party Name, Advocate Name, FIR Number, Act or Case Type.

Important note
Online case information is based on data made available by the concerned court establishment through the official eCourts system. If a filing cannot be found, recheck the filing number, year and selected court establishment. Where legally authenticated information is required, verify it from the concerned court or obtain the appropriate certified record.
