Search District and Taluka Court Case Status by Act and Section
The official eCourts Services portal provides an Act Type search for District and Taluka Court cases. This search is useful when you know the statute under which a matter is registered and, if available, the relevant section of that Act.

What is Search by Act?
Search by Act Type enables users to find cases registered under a selected law. The present eCourts interface allows you to search the Act list, select the required Act Type, optionally enter an Under Section value, select Pending or Disposed, enter the Captcha and then retrieve matching cases.
The Section field is optional. If no Section is entered, the portal can list cases belonging to all sections under the selected Act. This makes the facility useful where the statute is known but the exact section is not.
Steps to search a case by Act and Section
- Open the official eCourts Case Status page. Use the official service button above.
- Select the State. Choose the State or Union Territory relating to the concerned District Court.
- Select the District. Choose the district where the case is registered.
- Select the Court Complex. Choose the relevant court complex and, where required, the Establishment.
- Select the Act or Act Type search option. Open the Act-based search interface.
- Search the Act list. Enter at least three characters of the Act description to filter matching Acts. If no search criteria are entered, the portal may display the complete available Act list.
- Select the required Act Type. Choose the correct statute from the list displayed by the portal.
- Enter the Section, if known. Type the relevant Section in the Under Section field. Leave it blank if you want cases under all sections of the selected Act.
- Select Pending or Disposed. Choose the appropriate case status.
- Enter the Captcha. Type the alphanumeric characters displayed by the official portal.
- Click “Go”. The portal will show cases satisfying the selected Act and Section conditions.
- Open Case History. Click the adjacent View button for the relevant case to see its available case history and details.
If you do not know the Act
If you do not know the Act under which the case is registered, eCourts Case Status also provides search options such as Party Name, Case Number, Filing Number, Advocate Name, FIR Number and Case Type. If you know the 16-character alphanumeric CNR number, you can use the CNR search facility to retrieve the case directly.

Important points
Act descriptions and available section data depend on the records maintained by the concerned court establishment. Select the correct State, District, Court Complex and Establishment before choosing an Act, and verify the party names, case number and other particulars shown in the search result.
For criminal matters, the applicable substantive or procedural law may depend on the date and nature of the proceeding. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 came into force on 1 July 2024, while older matters may continue to display references to earlier enactments in court records where legally applicable. The eCourts search should therefore be used according to the Act actually reflected in the case record.
