Search District and Taluka Court Case Status by FIR Number

The official eCourts Services portal allows users to search District and Taluka Court cases using an FIR Number. The search is useful when you know the police-station FIR details but do not know the registered case number or CNR number.

Current official workflow: Select the relevant court details and FIR Number search, choose the Police Station, enter the FIR Number and FIR Year, select Pending, Disposed or Both, complete the 5-character alphanumeric Captcha, and click Go. Click View beside the matching case to open the Case History.

What is FIR Number case search?

FIR Number search helps locate court cases associated with a First Information Report registered at a police station. The eCourts service searches the court database using the police station, FIR number, FIR year and the selected case-status filter.

Steps to search a court case by FIR Number

  1. Open the official eCourts Services Case Status page.
  2. Select the State and District where the case is pending and then choose the appropriate Court Complex and Establishment where required.
  3. Select "FIR Number". This option appears in the Case Status search section.
  4. Select the Police Station. Choose the police station where the FIR was registered.
  5. Enter the FIR Number. Type the FIR number associated with the case.
  6. Enter the FIR Year. Use the year in which the FIR was registered.
  7. Select the case status. Choose Pending or Disposed. If you do not know the current status, select Both.
  8. Enter the Captcha. The current official portal uses a 5-character alphanumeric Captcha.
  9. Click "Go". The portal will display cases matching the FIR search criteria.
  10. Click "View". Open the relevant result to see the available Case History.

What information may be displayed?

Depending on the records maintained by the concerned court establishment, the Case History may include case details, current status, party names, case-registration information, hearing history and available orders.

Search tip: FIR-based search depends on accurate police-station details. If no result appears, verify the police station, FIR number, FIR year and selected court establishment before repeating the search.

eCourts provides other case-search methods. Depending on the information available to you, you can search by CNR Number, Case Number, Filing Number, Party Name, Advocate Name, Act or Case Type.

Current criminal-law terminology

For offences and criminal proceedings governed by the laws brought into force from 1 July 2024, references in current court records may include the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA). Older cases may continue to display references to the IPC, CrPC or Indian Evidence Act as applicable to those proceedings. FIR Number search itself continues to be based on the FIR and court-record details entered in eCourts.
