Gujarat Tax Payment Online: GST, VAT, CST & Professional Tax

Updated: 28 August 2026

Gujarat taxpayers can pay different taxes through different official systems. GST payments are made through the national GST Portal, while the Gujarat State Tax Department continues to provide e-services for applicable VAT/CST, Professional Tax, Registrar of Firms and other state-administered matters.

Important: the pre-GST system should not be used as a general substitute for GST. VAT/CST and related legacy services continue only where the relevant state or central law still applies. Always select the portal and tax head that match the liability being paid.

How to pay GST online in Gujarat

GST is administered through the common GST system. For GST liabilities, create the prescribed challan on the GST Portal and use one of the payment modes available there. GST cash deposits are made through Form GST PMT-06.

  1. Visit GST.gov.in and sign in to your account.
  2. Open the payment/challan service and enter the applicable tax, interest, penalty, fee or other amount.
  3. Generate the challan and select an available payment mode.
  4. Complete the bank or online payment process.
  5. Check the payment status and electronic cash ledger, then save the challan and acknowledgement.
Do not pay a GST liability through a VAT/CST payment head. GST and Gujarat VAT/CST are separate statutory systems with separate returns, ledgers and payment records.

  5. Verify the challan amount and taxpayer details before proceeding to payment.
  6. Complete payment and save or print the acknowledgement or payment receipt.

Current legal position after GST

GST replaced state VAT and CST for most supplies from 1 July 2017. Nevertheless, the Gujarat State Tax Department continues to administer VAT/CST and related legacy matters where those laws remain applicable. Its current website still publishes VAT schedules, VAT/CST manuals, forms and e-payment services.

Professional Tax continues separately under the Gujarat State Tax system. Taxpayers should therefore identify whether the liability arises under GST, VAT/CST, Professional Tax or another state law before making payment.

Before making payment: verify the GSTIN/TIN or registration number, assessment period, tax type, challan amount and payment status. If a transaction appears unsuccessful, first check the portal's payment history or status before attempting a second payment.
