How to Pay GST Online in Uttar Pradesh

GST payment for a taxpayer registered in Uttar Pradesh is made through the nationwide GST common portal. The U.P. State Tax Department itself links taxpayers to the GST payment service.

  1. Open the official GST payment service. Use the GST portal payment page or sign in to your GST account.
  2. Create or select the required challan. Enter the appropriate tax, interest, penalty, fee or other amount according to your liability.
  3. Choose the available payment mode. Complete payment through the modes offered by the GST portal for your challan.
  4. Verify the payment status. Confirm that the challan/payment is successful and that the amount is reflected in the relevant electronic ledger where applicable.
  5. Save the receipt/challan. Download or print the payment record for accounts, return filing and future reference.

Uttar Pradesh VAT & Legacy Dealer Services

GST commenced on 1 July 2017 and replaced the earlier State VAT system for most goods and services. However, legacy VAT proceedings and taxes on certain goods outside GST can still require State Tax Department services.

Important: Do not assume that an old VAT, CST, Entry Tax or TIN-based procedure applies to a current transaction. First identify the tax period, the goods involved and the applicable law.

The current U.P. State Tax website continues to list dealer services for VAT, including e-payment/returns, e-registration and e-forms. For a legacy VAT liability, use the link provided from the official State Tax Department site rather than an obsolete saved bookmark.

Current Legal Framework

For current State GST matters in Uttar Pradesh, the principal State legislation is the Uttar Pradesh Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, read with the UPGST Rules, applicable notifications, circulars and orders. The Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 and Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 may also apply depending on the transaction.

Before You Make an Online Tax Payment

Check the GSTIN/TIN or other taxpayer identification, tax period, tax head, amount and challan details before authorising payment. Use only official portals and avoid links received through unsolicited messages. Keep the challan, CIN/receipt and bank confirmation until the payment is correctly reflected in the applicable tax account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should a Uttar Pradesh GST taxpayer pay GST?

GST payments should be made through the official GST common portal. The U.P. State Tax Department provides a direct GST payment link to that portal.

Can I still use an old Commercial Tax Department payment URL?

Old HTTP, IP-address and superseded payment links should not be relied on. Start with the current U.P. State Tax Department website or the GST common portal and follow the current service link.

Is VAT completely irrelevant after GST?

No. GST replaced VAT for most supplies, but legacy VAT matters and certain goods outside the GST levy can still involve State VAT law and State Tax Department services.

Does this page collect tax payments?

No. This is an informational guide. Tax payments are made only on the relevant government portal or other officially authorised system.
