Assam eGRAS Online Payment: Pay Government Dues & Generate e-Challan

Assam eGRAS is the Government Receipt Accounting System used for electronic collection of eligible State Government fees, taxes and other receipts. This guide explains how to create a challan, make a payment without registration, save the GRN and keep the payment receipt.

What is Assam eGRAS?

eGRAS (Government Receipt Accounting System) is Assam's common electronic government-receipt platform. It supports online generation of e-challans and electronic payment of receipts for participating Government departments, including Treasury and Non-Treasury heads where enabled.

The exact department, payment type, office, accounting head and payment options displayed on the portal depend on the service selected. Always verify the details shown in the draft challan before proceeding to payment.

Important: GST return filing and most GST tax-payment functions are handled through the GST system and relevant tax portals. Use Assam eGRAS only where the concerned Assam Government department or service specifically requires payment through eGRAS.

Assam Tax Law & Portal Update

For GST matters, the Assam Commissionerate of Taxes currently publishes the Assam Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 together with subsequent amendments, including Assam GST amendments notified through 2025, as well as State Tax notifications, circulars and orders.

eGRAS itself is a payment and government-receipt system. The legal provision governing a particular tax, fee, cess or licence payment depends on the underlying statute, rules, notification or departmental order applicable to that receipt. Therefore, use the concerned department's current demand/order and official instructions when choosing the payment head.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pay through Assam eGRAS without registration?

Yes. The official workflow provides a "Pay Without Registration" option for eligible payments. The fields displayed depend on the selected department and payment type.

What is a GRN?

GRN is the Government Reference Number generated for an eGRAS challan. Keep it safely because it helps identify the challan and may be required for payment verification or future reference.

Should I use eGRAS to pay every Assam tax?

No. Use eGRAS where the concerned Government department or service directs you to do so. GST and certain other taxes or services may use their own statutory portals and payment workflows.

What should I do if the payment succeeds but the receipt is not available?

Do not immediately make a duplicate payment. Keep the GRN and bank/payment transaction reference, check the challan/payment status on the official portal, and contact the concerned department or portal helpdesk if the status does not update.

Can I rely on an old screenshot to select the payment head?

No. Portal menus and payment heads can change. Select the current department, payment type and accounting head shown on the official eGRAS portal and prescribed by the concerned department.
