Important: the old Punjab tax-payment link is outdated
The previous page directed users to an old pextax.com payment form and instructed them to select VAT, CST, Luxury Tax or Entry Tax from a single list. Punjab now operates a modern Taxation Commissionerate portal with separate GST, VAT and PSDT services. Use the current official portal appropriate to the tax involved.
Current Official Punjab Tax Payment Links
Which Portal Should You Use?
| Tax / Liability | Current Route | Important Note |
|---|---|---|
| Punjab GST / SGST | GST Portal | Use the national GST portal to create challans and pay GST liabilities. |
| Punjab VAT | Punjab Taxation Portal | Relevant mainly for liabilities and transactions still governed by the Punjab VAT framework, including specified non-GST goods and legacy periods. |
| Punjab State Development Tax (PSDT) | PSDT Portal | Use the dedicated PSDT portal for registration, returns, challans and payment. |
| Old CST / Entry / Luxury Tax liabilities | Punjab Taxation Commissionerate / competent authority | For historical assessments, arrears or periods governed by earlier law, use the current department portal and the applicable legacy-law procedure rather than the old payment page. |
How to Pay Punjab GST Online
- Open the official GST Portal and sign in using the taxpayer's GST credentials.
- Go to Services → Payments → Create Challan.
- Enter or verify the required tax amounts and generate the challan.
- Select the payment mode made available by the GST portal, such as e-payment or another supported mode.
- Complete payment and retain the challan/payment reference. The successful payment is reflected in the taxpayer's electronic cash ledger according to the GST system.
How to Pay Punjab VAT or Legacy State Tax
- Open the official Punjab Taxation Commissionerate portal.
- Choose the VAT or e-payment service applicable to the taxpayer and tax period.
- Sign in with the registered taxpayer credentials where login is required.
- Enter the period, liability and challan/payment particulars shown by the current portal.
- Complete the payment through the available official payment channel and save the receipt/challan.
Do not use an old VAT/CST/Luxury/Entry Tax screenshot as the current workflow. Portal screens, payment options and forms can change.
Punjab State Development Tax (PSDT) Payment
Punjab maintains a dedicated portal for the Punjab State Development Tax. The portal provides registration, taxpayer login, returns and e-challan functions. Registered PAN/TAN is used as the username according to the current portal instructions.
Latest Punjab Tax Law Position
The principal State GST law is the Punjab Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017. Punjab's Taxation Commissionerate currently publishes the Punjab Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Act, 2025, along with the 2024 and earlier amendment Acts. The department also continues to publish GST notifications and rule amendments issued in 2026.
VAT remains relevant for matters that continue outside the ordinary GST framework and for legacy periods governed by the Punjab Value Added Tax Act, 2005. The current Punjab Taxation portal continues to provide VAT returns, taxpayer information and VAT e-payment services.
PSDT is governed by the Punjab State Development Tax Act, 2018 and the Punjab State Development Tax Rules, 2018, as amended. The official PSDT portal publishes the Punjab State Development Tax (First Amendment) Rules, 2025.
Why the Old Entry, Luxury & Commercial Tax Page Needed Updating
The old page was written for the pre-GST tax environment and treated VAT, CST, Luxury Tax and Entry Tax as ordinary current payment choices. Since the introduction of GST, taxpayers should first identify the present law governing the liability. GST payments belong on the GST portal, PSDT has its own Punjab portal, while VAT and older state-tax liabilities should be handled through the current Punjab Taxation Commissionerate services.
Before Making Any Online Tax Payment
- Confirm the correct tax law, taxpayer registration number and assessment period.
- Use only an official Government portal before entering PAN, GSTIN, bank or payment details.
- Check the challan carefully before authorising payment.
- Save the challan, CIN/CPIN or other transaction reference generated by the relevant system.
- For old assessments or arrears, verify the applicable legacy law and demand order rather than treating the liability as current GST.
