Which Telangana tax portal should you use?

Telangana's tax-payment system is no longer accurately described as one general portal for VAT, CST, Professional Tax, Luxury Tax and Entry Tax. After introduction of GST, most GST liabilities are handled through the national GST system, while the Telangana Commercial Taxes Department continues to provide Profession Tax and departmental or legacy-tax services.

Profession Tax Use the Telangana Commercial Taxes Department's dedicated Profession Tax portal for registration, e-payment, e-receipt, rate schedule and related services.
GST GST registration, returns, challan generation and tax payment are ordinarily handled through the official GST portal.
VAT / CST / TOT legacy matters Telangana CTD continues to retain VAT/CST/TOT sections and legacy services. Use these only where a liability, assessment, return, demand or payment relates to the applicable pre-GST or continuing statutory regime.
Departmental e-Payment The Telangana Commercial Taxes e-Payment page remains available and asks for tax type, TIN/GRN, payment purpose, tax period and amount.
Do not select an old tax head merely because it appears in a legacy menu. Use the tax head applicable to the liability or demand you are paying. For GST liabilities, use the GST portal unless an official departmental notice specifically directs otherwise.

Current laws relevant to Telangana commercial taxes

GST

For intra-State supplies in Telangana, the principal State GST law is the Telangana Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, read with the TGST Rules and corresponding CGST/IGST legislation, notifications, circulars and amendments.

Profession Tax

Profession Tax in Telangana is administered under the Telangana Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1987, together with the applicable rules, schedule, forms, government orders and notifications.

VAT and CST

The Telangana Commercial Taxes Department continues to publish VAT and CST legislation and legacy services. These laws remain relevant to applicable historical assessments, disputes, arrears and transactions or goods that continue outside the general GST framework where legally applicable.

Legal-position note: The existence of an older tax heading on the CTD website does not by itself mean that every taxpayer must pay that levy today. Liability depends on the applicable statute, tax period, nature of transaction and any assessment or demand issued by the competent authority.
