PAN Card Correction Online 2026: Change Name, Address, DOB, Mobile or Other Details

Updated: 29 August 2026

If your Permanent Account Number (PAN) record contains an incorrect name, date of birth, address or other information, you can submit a PAN change/correction request through an authorised PAN service provider such as Protean eGov (formerly NSDL eGov) or UTIITSL.

Important 2026 update: From 1 April 2026, the PAN framework uses the new forms prescribed under the Income-tax Act, 2025 and Income-tax Rules, 2026. For correction of an existing PAN, the current forms are CR-01 for individuals and CR-02 for non-individuals. The old PAN forms and old NSDL/TIN application screens shown in many older guides should not be relied upon for a fresh 2026 request.

Which PAN correction form applies in 2026?

Purpose Current form Who should use it
Change or correction in existing PAN data CR-01 Individuals
Change or correction in existing PAN data CR-02 Non-individuals such as entities
Fresh PAN application Form 93 Individual - citizen of India
Fresh PAN application Form 94 Indian non-individual entity
Fresh PAN application Form 95 Individual - not a citizen of India
Fresh PAN application Form 96 Foreign non-individual entity

Do not apply for another PAN merely because information on an existing PAN needs correction. Use the change/correction facility for the PAN already allotted to you.

How to correct PAN details online through Protean eGov

  1. Open the official Protean PAN Services website using the link on this page.
  2. Choose the option for a change/correction in existing PAN data. Select the applicable correction form/category shown by the current portal.
  3. Enter your existing PAN and the applicant information requested by the portal. Ensure the name, date of birth or incorporation details and contact information match your supporting documents.
  4. Select the field or fields that need correction, such as name, parent name, date of birth, address, mobile number, e-mail address or other PAN database particulars, as applicable.
  5. Upload or provide the supporting documents required for the particular correction. Document requirements vary according to the applicant category and the field being changed.
  6. Complete Aadhaar/e-KYC/e-Sign or another permitted verification method if the portal offers and accepts that method for your application.
  7. Pay the applicable service/processing charge shown on the official portal, where a charge applies.
  8. Submit the request and save the acknowledgement or reference number. Use that number to track the application status on the same authorised service-provider portal.

Documents generally required for PAN correction

The exact documents depend on the applicant and the correction requested. Keep valid documentary evidence ready for the particulars you want changed. Depending on the case, the portal may require proof of identity, proof of address, proof of date of birth and documentary proof supporting the requested change.

Date-of-birth proof: Protean's current 2026 service notice states that, under the revised Income-tax Rules, 2026, Aadhaar is not accepted as proof of date of birth with a PAN application from 1 April 2026. Check the current document list on the authorised PAN portal before submission.

Free Aadhaar-based update of address, e-mail or mobile

Where available to an eligible PAN holder, Protean provides an Aadhaar-based online facility for certain PAN contact/address updates. This is different from a full correction request for core demographic details. Use only the official Protean or UTIITSL facility and follow the eligibility instructions displayed there.

PAN correction under the Income-tax Act, 2025

The current PAN system operates under the Income-tax Act, 2025 and the Income-tax Rules, 2026. The Income Tax Department confirms that the new PAN application forms became applicable from 1 April 2026 and that existing PAN/TAN numbers continue to remain valid. A person who already has a PAN should therefore seek correction or update of the existing PAN instead of applying for a second PAN.

How to track PAN correction status

After submitting a PAN correction request, retain the acknowledgement or reference number generated by the authorised provider. Application status can be checked through the provider's official tracking facility. Avoid third-party websites that ask for unnecessary personal, Aadhaar, banking or OTP information.

Common PAN corrections

Correction What to check before submitting
Name / spelling Use the name supported by the prescribed identity/change document and follow the portal's name-format instructions.

Mobile / e-mail Use an active mobile number and e-mail address that you can access for verification and service messages.
Parent name / other data Choose only the fields requiring correction and keep the supporting evidence ready.
