HSRP Online Booking: Apply, Replace & Track High Security Number Plate
High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are governed by the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and the Motor Vehicles (High Security Registration Plates) Order, 2018. This updated guide explains who needs HSRP, how to book it online, how replacement works, and where to check official notifications.
Current HSRP legal position
The Motor Vehicles (High Security Registration Plates) Order, 2018 came into force on 1 April 2019. It requires HSRP to conform to the specifications in Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The Order also provides that HSRP for new vehicles sold on or after 1 April 2019 is supplied through vehicle manufacturers and their dealers.
For existing/older vehicles, HSRP may be supplied and affixed by vehicle manufacturers' dealers, and State-authorised HSRP manufacturers or suppliers may also be permitted to provide plates. Availability, appointment processes and enforcement therefore differ between States and Union Territories.
