The eCourts eFiling platform enables advocates and litigants to file cases, applications, pleadings and supporting documents online in participating courts. Availability, filing categories, court-fee payment, document specifications and local procedure can vary by High Court, State and court establishment.

Official portal: Use the current eCourts eFiling service at filing.ecourts.gov.in. The e-Committee of the Supreme Court also publishes eFiling manuals and training material.

Who can register for eFiling?

The live eCourts registration system provides registration for Advocates and Litigants. The portal may also offer other user categories depending on deployment and court configuration. Advocates are required to provide and verify their Bar registration details, while a litigant registers using personal, court and contact information requested by the portal.

Information to keep ready

Active Indian mobile number that can receive OTP.
Working email address.
Personal details such as name, date of birth and contact details, as requested.
For an advocate: Bar registration / enrolment details in the format required by the portal.
State and the relevant place of litigation: High Court or District Court, including Bench/District where applicable.
Scanned pleadings and supporting documents in the format prescribed by the selected court when you later proceed to e-file a case.

Important: Do not rely on old screenshots for field names, file-size limits or password rules. The live portal and the applicable High Court/District Court eFiling rules should be treated as controlling because technical requirements can change.

How to register as an Advocate

Open the official eFiling portal. Visit filing.ecourts.gov.in and choose the option for new-user registration.
Select �Advocate�. The registration form will display advocate-specific fields.
Enter Bar registration details. Select the State and enter the Bar registration/enrolment particulars requested by the portal, then complete verification where provided.
Enter personal details. Fill in the advocate name and other mandatory information shown on the current form.
Select place of practice / litigation. Choose the relevant court type and State, District Court or High Court, and Bench where applicable.
Provide contact details. Enter the mobile number, email address and other mandatory contact information.
Create a password. Follow the password conditions displayed by the portal at the time of registration.
Complete OTP verification. Request the OTP and verify the registered mobile number as directed on screen.
Preview the form. Carefully verify the information and correct any error before submission.
Accept the declaration and submit. Complete the registration process. Save your username/registered login details securely.

How to register as a Litigant / Party in Person

Open the official eFiling portal. Go to filing.ecourts.gov.in and select new-user registration.
Select �Litigant�. Use the litigant option rather than advocate registration.
Enter your personal information. Fill in the mandatory name, date-of-birth and related fields displayed by the live registration form.
Select the place of litigation. Choose High Court or District Court and select the relevant State, District/High Court and Bench where applicable.
Enter mobile and email details. The portal specifically advises litigants to use the mobile number connected with their case where required to access case data.
Create your password. Follow the current password rules shown on screen.
Verify OTP. Request and enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number.
Preview and verify. Check spelling, court selection, mobile number and email before final submission.
Confirm the declaration. Submit only after confirming that the information is true, complete and accurate.
Log in and proceed to eFiling. After successful registration, sign in and follow the selected court's eFiling procedure for filing a new case or an application in a pending case.

Applicable eFiling rules and legal procedure

eFiling is a mode of presenting cases and documents to the court; it does not replace the substantive and procedural law governing the proceeding. Civil proceedings continue to be governed by the applicable civil procedure and High Court rules, while criminal proceedings are governed by the applicable criminal procedure, including the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) for proceedings to which it applies. Court-specific eFiling rules, practice directions, prescribed formats, limitation requirements, court fees, affidavits, vakalatnama/authorisation requirements and scrutiny objections must also be complied with.

Because eFiling procedure is implemented court-wise, always check the website of the concerned High Court or District Judiciary for the latest notification, eFiling rules, mandatory categories and document specifications before filing.

What can the eFiling platform do?

The eCourts platform describes eFiling as an end-to-end online filing facility. Depending on the court and enabled services, users may be able to upload pleadings/documents, use electronic signing, make online court-fee payments, submit vakalatnama-related material, manage case portfolios and complete other filing-related steps online.
