Current legal framework for FIRs

With effect from 1 July 2024, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS) replaced the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 for the new criminal-procedure framework.

For the statutory text, see Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 on India Code.

FIR copy and online availability

The Meghalaya Police FIR Search page states that the portal provides a means for citizens of the State to obtain a copy of their registered FIR. The search form presently asks for the FIR number, police station and FIR date range.

The portal is part of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), under which police stations and higher police offices are computerized and networked to support online citizen services.
