How to Search an NDMC Death Certificate Online
- Open the official NDMC Online Death Certificate Service.
- If available, enter the Application Number. This is one of the direct search options provided by NDMC.
- Alternatively, enter the Registration Number together with the Date of Death.
- If those numbers are not available, use the alternate search section. NDMC currently requires at least two fields to be completed for this search method.
- Enter the captcha displayed on the official portal and select Search.
- Review the matching record carefully and use the certificate options displayed by NDMC.

The current NDMC death-search form allows the first three characters to be entered for the father's name and spouse's name fields. Use the spelling and particulars recorded at the time of registration for the best chance of locating the record.

NDMC describes its online Birth & Death Certificates service as a system through which citizens can print birth and death certificates online. After a matching death record is located, follow the options displayed by the official portal to access the certificate.
Death Registration and Delayed Registration in Delhi
Delhi government guidance states that a birth or death is ordinarily to be reported and registered within 21 days at the place where the event occurred. Responsibility for reporting depends on where the death occurred-for example, a household, hospital or other institution.
Where a death has not been registered within the normal period, delayed-registration requirements can apply. The applicable authority, supporting documents, fees and orders depend on the period of delay and the statutory rules. Use the relevant Delhi/NDMC registration service rather than treating the certificate-search page as a delayed-registration application.
Current Law Governing Death Registration
The Delhi Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Rules, 2024 were notified on 11 October 2024. Among other changes, the amended rules expressly provide for certificates of birth or death to be given electronically or otherwise and prescribe updated formatting requirements for names, dates and addresses in the relevant forms.
The 2024 Delhi rules provide that names in the prescribed forms are to use first-name, middle-name and last-name format, as applicable, without abbreviations. Dates are to use DD-MM-YYYY format, and addresses are to contain the specified State/UT, district, sub-district, locality and other particulars, as applicable.
For deaths in medical institutions, medical certification of the cause of death is also governed by the statutory framework. The Delhi 2024 amendment updated Rule 7 concerning medical certification and the relevant forms.
Correction in an NDMC Death Certificate
If the registered death record contains an error, use NDMC's separate Birth/Death Certificate Record Correction Service. A correction request is different from merely searching or reprinting an already registered certificate.
Corrections to entries are governed by the Registration of Births and Deaths Act and the applicable Delhi rules. NDMC may require documentary evidence and applicant verification depending on the type of correction requested.
