NDMC Child Name Inclusion Status Online: Check Application and Birth Record

Parents and guardians can use the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) online services to access child name inclusion facilities and check the progress of an application to add a child's name to an already registered birth record.

Official portal update: NDMC indicates that its birth-related online services have moved to the new NDMC Online Services Portal. Use the current portal rather than relying on older screenshots or menu locations.

What is NDMC child name inclusion?

Child name inclusion is the process of adding a child's name to an existing birth registration when the birth was initially recorded without the child's name. It is different from registering an unregistered birth, correcting an incorrectly recorded name, or legally changing an existing name.

NDMC provides birth and death certificate services for records falling within its jurisdiction. If the birth was registered with another local registrar, the relevant authority must be approached instead.

How to check NDMC child name inclusion status online

  1. Open the NDMC website: Visit the official NDMC Online Services page, which lists Child Name Inclusion under Birth and Death Certificates, or open the new NDMC services portal.
  2. Choose the relevant service: Locate Birth and Death services and select Child Name Inclusion, application tracking, or the equivalent option shown in the current portal. The exact menu labels may change.
  3. Sign in or proceed as directed: Follow any registration, login, declaration, or consent instructions displayed by NDMC.
  4. Enter the requested details: Provide the birth registration number or application number and the associated date of birth or other details required by the live form.
  5. Complete verification: Enter the CAPTCHA or complete any other verification requested by the portal.
  6. Submit the search: Select Search, Track, or the corresponding action to view the application information available online.
  7. Download when available: If NDMC provides an approved or updated birth certificate for download, save a copy and check that the child's name and other particulars are correct.

The older NDMC workflow used an Online Services > Name Inclusion path, an I Agree confirmation, and a Search form. These historical labels are provided for orientation only; the current portal may use a different sequence.

Information that may be needed

  • Birth registration number, as recorded on the original birth certificate or acknowledgement.
  • Child name inclusion application or acknowledgement number, if issued.
  • Child's date of birth and place of birth or registration jurisdiction.
  • Other identifying information, login credentials or verification requested by NDMC.

Enter details exactly as shown in the registration record. The search form may permit different combinations of identifiers; only the fields displayed on the official portal are mandatory for that search.

Legal provisions governing child name inclusion

Section 14 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969

Section 14 (Registration of name of child) provides that when a child's birth has been registered without a name, the parent or guardian must provide the child's name to the Registrar within the prescribed period, orally or in writing. The Registrar then records the name in the birth register and initials and dates the entry. This is the principal statutory basis for name inclusion.

Rule 10 of the Delhi Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 1999

Rule 10 (Period for addition of name in the register), as amended, deals with the time available for entering a child's name in a previously registered birth record. The general initial period is twelve months from birth registration. Later inclusion is subject to the applicable Delhi rule, amendment provisions, eligibility and prescribed late fee. Delhi's 2014 amendment also contains transitional provisions for older registrations. Applicants with older records should confirm the applicable deadline directly with the Registrar instead of assuming a single time limit applies to every case.

Section 15: correction is a separate process

Section 15 (Correction or cancellation of entry in the register of births and deaths) concerns entries proved erroneous in form or substance or fraudulently or improperly made, subject to applicable rules. It is not the same as adding a name to a birth record that originally contained no name.

The Registration of Births and Deaths Act was amended in 2023, with the relevant amendment provisions coming into force on 1 October 2023. Applicants should consult the currently applicable Act and Delhi rules, not outdated procedural guidance.

If the status is unavailable or the application is pending

  • Check the spelling, registration number, application number and date of birth before trying again.
  • Confirm that the birth was registered under NDMC rather than another Delhi registration authority.
  • If the old NDMC link redirects, use the new online services portal and its current login or tracking procedure.
  • If the application remains pending, retain the acknowledgement and contact the NDMC birth and death registration service through the official NDMC website.
  • If a certificate has been issued but contains an error, ask the Registrar whether a correction application under Section 15 is required.
