After enrolling for Aadhaar, you can track whether your application is being processed, has been approved or requires further action. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) provides a free official online status-checking service.
How to check Aadhaar enrolment status online
- Keep the acknowledgement slip issued by your Aadhaar enrolment centre.
- Visit the UIDAI Check Aadhaar Status page, or open the official My Aadhaar services directory.
- Enter the enrolment ID (EID) and any additional information requested by the current portal. The slip records a 14-digit enrolment number together with the date and time of enrolment.
- Complete the on-screen security verification and submit the request.
- Read the status shown. If Aadhaar has been generated, proceed to download e-Aadhaar using the official service.
Can Aadhaar status be checked by name and date of birth?
The current UIDAI enrolment status service ordinarily uses the enrolment identifier rather than a search based only on name and date of birth. If you have misplaced the slip, retrieve your EID first. Avoid websites claiming to locate anyone's Aadhaar number merely from personal details.
What is an Aadhaar enrolment ID (EID)?
The enrolment acknowledgement slip contains a 14-digit enrolment number and a 14-digit date-and-time stamp. These details identify the enrolment request and allow UIDAI to locate its processing status. An EID is not the same as the 12-digit Aadhaar number eventually issued after successful generation.
How to recover a lost enrolment ID

The status displayed on the official portal is the best indication of progress. If your application is rejected, follow UIDAI's instructions, which may require fresh enrolment.
How to download e-Aadhaar after generation
Once Aadhaar has been generated, visit the myAadhaar portal and select Download Aadhaar. Follow the instructions for Aadhaar number, EID or other supported identifiers, and authenticate with the OTP sent to your registered mobile number. Can Aadhaar status be checked by SMS?
Older instructions referred to sending a message to 51969. This legacy SMS method should not be relied upon as a currently supported status service. Use the official UIDAI online portal or call 1947 instead.
Legal framework governing Aadhaar enrolment
Section 3 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016 addresses entitlement to obtain an Aadhaar number on submission of demographic and biometric information and the prescribed enrolment process, subject to the Act's requirements. Section 23 sets out the UIDAI's powers and functions, including enrolment-related responsibilities. Section 54 authorises regulations to carry out the Act.
The Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016, updated in 2026 provide operational rules for enrolment, verification and updates. These provisions regulate the enrolment process; they do not create a separate right to search Aadhaar status using only a name and date of birth.
