Select the available search option
Search using the challan number, vehicle number or driving licence number, depending on the options shown on the portal.
Enter the required verification details
Complete any registration-date, date-of-birth, captcha, mobile verification or other verification fields requested by the live portal.
Get challan details
Select Get Detail or the equivalent option. Available challan information may include challan number, date, amount, status, department and location.
How to Pay UP Traffic Challan Online
Retrieve the pending challan
Search for the challan using the official eChallan service and check that the vehicle/challan details belong to you.
Select Pay Now when available
If online payment is permitted for that challan, the portal will display the payment option. A challan may not always be directly payable online if it has moved to another stage or authority.
Complete identity or mobile verification if requested
The portal may require verification using the mobile number linked with VAHAN or another permitted authentication method.
Pay through the official payment gateway
Use only the payment gateway opened from the official eChallan service. Do not pay through links received from unknown senders.
Save the transaction details
After payment, retain the challan number, transaction ID and payment receipt for future reference.
Current Legal Position on Traffic Challans in Uttar Pradesh
Traffic challans are governed principally by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the applicable Central Motor Vehicles Rules, state rules and notifications, and other legally applicable traffic directions. Section 200 of the Motor Vehicles Act permits specified offences to be compounded by officers or authorities and for amounts notified by the State Government.
Uttar Pradesh issued a fresh compounding notification on 22 April 2025 under Section 200(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, superseding the State's earlier 30 July 2020 notification except for past acts or omissions. The 2025 notification specifies authorised Transport and Police officers, covered offences and compounding amounts.

If Your Challan Is Sent to Virtual Court
The official eChallan system may show that a challan has been forwarded to Virtual Court. The Virtual Courts platform allows litigants to search cases, view status and, where the facility is available, pay the applicable fine online.
Check Pending or Failed eChallan Payment
If money was debited but the challan still appears unpaid, do not immediately make a second payment. Use the official eChallan transaction-status or payment-verification facility first. Keep your challan number, vehicle number and transaction ID ready.
