Central Universities Act, 2009

The Central Universities Act, 2009 (Act No. 25 of 2009) establishes and incorporates Central Universities for teaching and research and governs their objects, powers, officers, authorities, statutes, ordinances, accounts, employee service conditions, appeals and related matters.

Long title: An Act to establish and incorporate universities for teaching and research in the various States and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Section 1 - Short title and commencement

(1) This Act may be called the Central Universities Act, 2009.

(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 15th day of January, 2009.

Current amendment note: The consolidated Act now includes later amendments creating or providing for additional Central Universities, including Section 3E (Sindhu Central University), Section 3F (Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya) and Section 3G (Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University).
