Business Visitor Stream: What It Allows

The Business Visitor stream is for genuine temporary visitors who are outside Australia when they apply and when the visa application is decided. It can be used for permitted short business visitor activities such as making general business or employment enquiries, negotiating or reviewing contracts, taking part in an official government visit, or attending a conference, trade fair or seminar where the organiser does not pay the visitor to participate.

A business visitor cannot work for or provide services to an Australian business or organisation and cannot sell goods or services directly to the public. The Department states that the usual stay is up to three months, although the period granted is determined case by case.

Supporting Documents for an Australian Business Visitor Visa

The exact documents depend on the applicant's circumstances. Home Affairs asks applicants to provide sufficient evidence of identity, the proposed business activity, available funds and genuine temporary-visitor intentions.

1. Identity documents

• Clear colour copy of the passport identity or personal-details page.
• National identity card, where applicable or requested.
• Evidence of any change of name, such as a marriage certificate, divorce certificate or official change-of-name document.
• Any additional identity documents requested in the applicant's ImmiAccount document checklist.

2. Passport and document quality

Scans or photographs should be in colour, clear and legible. If a document has more than one page, save all pages together as one file where possible. Upload each document only once even when it supports more than one part of the application.

Business-Purpose Documents

Provide evidence showing what business visitor activities you intend to undertake in Australia. Depending on the visit, useful supporting documents can include:

• Invitation letter from the Australian host organisation or business.
• Conference, seminar or trade-fair registration details.
• Letter from the applicant's employer explaining the purpose and duration of the visit.
• Travel itinerary and details of business contacts in Australia.
• Evidence of current employment and professional qualifications.
• Evidence that the applicant's employer or company is an active business, such as an annual report or business registration evidence.
• Evidence of previous dealings, meetings or correspondence with Australian businesses or organisations, where relevant.

Financial Documents and Genuine-Visitor Evidence

You must have, or have access to, enough money for your stay and departure from Australia. Home Affairs lists examples such as:

• Itemised personal bank statements covering about three months.
• Pay slips.
• Audited accounts or tax records.
• Term-deposit records.
• Credit-card statements.

Applicants should also provide evidence that supports their intention to leave Australia after the visit. Depending on circumstances, this may include an employer letter confirming continued employment, evidence of study, close family connections, property or other assets, or evidence of the right to return to the applicant's country of residence.

Applicants Under 18 Years of Age

An applicant under 18 may need evidence of parental responsibility and consent. Home Affairs uses Form 1229 - Consent to grant an Australian visa to a child under the age of 18 years where applicable. Supporting evidence can include a certified copy of the child's birth certificate, identification for the non-accompanying parent or person with parental responsibility, and any relevant custody or court documents.

Health and Character Requirements

Applicants must meet Australia's applicable health and character requirements. Home Affairs may ask for health examinations, police certificates, biometrics or other evidence depending on the applicant's circumstances. Do not arrange a health examination or police certificate solely on the basis of this general checklist if the Department's instructions for the application say otherwise.

Applicants are responsible for healthcare costs while in Australia. Home Affairs strongly recommends adequate health insurance for overseas visitors and may impose a health-insurance condition in some circumstances.

How to Apply for the Business Visitor Stream

1. Confirm that the Visitor visa (subclass 600) Business Visitor stream is suitable for the proposed activities.
2. Create or sign in to ImmiAccount.
3. Complete the online application accurately.
4. Attach the required supporting documents shown in the application checklist.
5. Pay the applicable visa application charge.
6. Respond promptly if Home Affairs requests additional documents, biometrics, health examinations or other information.

As at 1 September 2026, Home Affairs lists the standard Business Visitor stream visa application charge as AUD 250, with limited concessions applying in specified circumstances. Fees can change, so applicants should verify the amount in the official Visa Pricing Estimator before lodging.
