Chief Minister Advocates Welfare Scheme Delhi: Registration, Eligibility and Benefits
The Chief Minister Advocates Welfare Scheme (CMAWS) is a Government of NCT of Delhi welfare scheme for eligible practicing advocates. It provides insurance and other welfare benefits to advocates who satisfy the prescribed eligibility conditions and complete the registration and application process.
Eligibility for CMAWS Delhi
To be considered under the scheme, an applicant must generally be:
- a practicing advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi; and
- an elector of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
Registration by itself does not automatically confer scheme benefits. The applicant must complete the online application and the relevant particulars, including Bar Council of Delhi enrolment details and electoral particulars, are subject to verification by the competent authorities.
Benefits under the Chief Minister Advocates Welfare Scheme
Life cover of ₹10 lakh per eligible practicing advocate, subject to the applicable policy terms.
Family floater cover of ₹5 lakh for the advocate, spouse and two dependent children up to 25 years of age, subject to policy conditions.
E-library facilities with computers, e-journals and printers at Delhi district court complexes as provided under the scheme.
Creche facilities for advocates and staff employees at district court complexes as provided under the scheme.
Current insurance policy periods
As reflected on the official CMAWS portal in September 2026:
- Group Term Insurance: 20 October 2025 to 19 October 2026 for the current listed eligible beneficiaries.
- Group Mediclaim Insurance: 16 May 2026 to 15 May 2027 for the current listed eligible beneficiaries.
Policy periods, insurer arrangements and beneficiary lists can change. Always confirm the current position on the official CMAWS portal before making a claim or relying on coverage.
How to register and apply online
The Government's user manual describes the process broadly as registration, candidate login, filling the online application and then viewing, editing or printing the submitted application as permitted by the portal.
- Open the official CMAWS portal. Use the Government of NCT of Delhi CMAWS portal during an active registration window.
- Select the new-user / sign-up option. Complete the basic registration using the details requested on the portal. Keep access to your registered mobile number and email address.
- Complete verification. Follow the portal's OTP or other verification process and create your login credentials.
- Log in to your CMAWS account. Use your registered email/login credentials and complete the captcha or other security check shown on the portal.
- Fill the online application. Enter personal details, Bar Council of Delhi enrolment details, electoral particulars, nominee details and family details where required.
- Upload or provide supporting information. Follow the current portal instructions and SOP. The precise fields or document requirements may be changed by the Department from time to time.
- Review and submit the application. Verify all details carefully before final submission. Save or print the acknowledgement/application ID for your records.

Existing beneficiaries and correction of details
The 29 June 2026 notice states that advocates who had already applied for registration in 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026 and are beneficiaries need not apply afresh. Existing beneficiaries seeking correction or updating of particulars should follow the current CMAWS SOP and the instructions available on the official portal.
Advocates who already have an application ID but are not yet beneficiaries because of a deficiency may be able to log in with their existing registered email credentials and complete the required process, subject to the current portal instructions.
Background of the scheme
The scheme was approved by the Council of Ministers of the Government of NCT of Delhi through Cabinet Decision No. 2794 dated 18 December 2019. An annual budget outlay of ₹50 crore was provided for welfare measures for the legal community. The scheme includes term insurance, mediclaim insurance, e-library facilities and creche facilities.
Frequently asked questions
Is the July 2026 fresh-registration window still open?
No. The notified window closed at 11:59:59 PM on 15 July 2026.
Will the portal open again?
The Government notice states that, under the SOP, fresh registration is opened twice a year in January and July. Applicants should rely on the next official notification for the exact dates.
Does registration automatically provide insurance cover?
No. Registration must be followed by completion of the application, verification and the administrative/policy formalities prescribed by the Government.
Do previously registered beneficiaries need to apply again?
The June 2026 notice says beneficiaries who had already applied in 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026 need not apply afresh. They should update details only when required under the applicable procedure.
