Current legal framework: Aadhaar enrolment and update are governed by the Aadhaar Act, 2016 and the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016, as amended. UIDAI notified the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) First Amendment Regulations, 2026 in May 2026.
Which Aadhaar update form should you use?
UIDAI no longer uses one generic form for every applicant. The current official forms are divided according to age, residence status and whether the applicant has an address in India or outside India.

What Aadhaar details can be updated?
UIDAI permits updates to demographic and biometric information. Demographic fields include name, address, date of birth or age, gender, mobile number, email address and other permitted details. Biometric updates include fingerprints, iris and facial photograph.
Online update is limited. UIDAI's current FAQ states that the online Aadhaar update service permits Address and Document Update. For other changes, such as name, date of birth, gender, mobile number, email or biometric information, visit an Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra, subject to the service available.
How to update Aadhaar at an enrolment or update centre
- Download the correct UIDAI form for your category or obtain it at the Aadhaar centre.
- Fill in your Aadhaar number and clearly select the information to be updated.
- Carry the original supporting documents required for the requested change.
- Submit the form and documents to the authorised operator.
- Verify all demographic information in English and the regional language before approving the request.
- Complete biometric authentication or capture where required.
- Pay the applicable UIDAI update fee and collect the acknowledgement slip containing the update request number.
Online Aadhaar address and document update
If your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar, you can use the official myAadhaar portal for services currently offered online. UIDAI's current guidance states that online self-service supports address update and document update.
Documents required for Aadhaar correction
The supporting document depends on the information being corrected. UIDAI classifies acceptable documents as Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA), Proof of Relationship (PoR) and Proof of Date of Birth (PDB), where applicable.
- Use only documents included in UIDAI's current List of Acceptable Supporting Documents.
- The document should be valid on the date of application unless UIDAI expressly provides otherwise.
- For an address update, the name and address should satisfy UIDAI's Proof of Address requirements.
- For a verified date of birth, submit an acceptable Proof of Date of Birth document.
- Original documents presented at a centre are electronically copied and verified against the originals.
Special rule for children born on or after 1 October 2023
UIDAI's current guidance states that a birth certificate as Proof of Date of Birth / Proof of Relationship is mandatory for a child born on or after 1 October 2023, where the requirement applies.
Name, gender and date-of-birth update limits
UIDAI's current FAQ states that Aadhaar data is ordinarily subject to lifetime update limits: name may generally be updated twice, gender once and date of birth once. Requests beyond the permitted limits may require the procedure prescribed by UIDAI for exceptional cases.
Address correction requirements
For an address update, the Proof of Address should contain the applicant's name and address. Minor enhancement or correction may be permitted where it does not change the base address in the supporting document. A substantial change to the base address generally requires an alternative valid Proof of Address.
Mobile number and email update
UIDAI states that mobile-number update is not available through the normal online update service. Visit an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or use another UIDAI-authorised channel where available. No document or old mobile number is ordinarily required for a mobile-number update at the centre, subject to UIDAI's current process.
Applicable update charges
Aadhaar enrolment is free. Fees apply to specified update services. The 2026 regulations provide for charges for demographic, biometric and PoI/PoA document updates at rates authorised by UIDAI from time to time. Check the current UIDAI charges before visiting a centre or submitting an online request.
Important instructions before submitting the form
- Choose the correct form according to age and resident category.
- Enter details exactly as supported by the applicable document.
- Do not submit unclear, cropped or unreadable document copies for an online update.
- Review spelling, date of birth, gender and address carefully before approving the operator's entry.
- Keep the acknowledgement or Service Request Number until the update is completed.
