Check Stolen, Lost or Seized Vehicle Status Online in Chhattisgarh
The Chhattisgarh Police Citizen Service Portal offers a vehicle-record search for stolen, lost and seized vehicles. This guide explains how to find the service, enter the available FIR particulars and understand the limits of an online result.
What does the vehicle status search mean?
The portal provides a service labelled StolenLostv.Seized Vehicle. It is intended for looking up vehicle records available in the police system. A result reflects the information accessible through the portal at the time of the search; it is not, by itself, proof of lawful ownership, freedom from encumbrances or the absence of every police case in India.
How to check stolen, lost or seized vehicle status
- Open the official Chhattisgarh Police website or go directly to the Citizen Service Portal.
- From the police website, follow the CCTNS or citizen-services link, where provided. On the citizen portal, look under Services.
- Choose StolenLostv.Seized Vehicle (the label may appear with slightly different spacing).
- On the search form, select the district and police station, if requested.
- Enter the FIR number and select the FIR year, where those fields are displayed. Check the details against the FIR or police acknowledgment.
- Select Search or the equivalent option to see available vehicle details. If the service asks for login, create a citizen account or sign in as directed by the official portal.
Important: The district, police station, FIR number and year are the fields described in the earlier portal procedure. Their current presence and any additional authentication requirements must be confirmed on the live form.
Information to keep ready
Keep the vehicle registration number, chassis number, engine number, FIR number and year, police station, district, and a copy of the registration certificate if available. Not every field is necessarily requested by the online search, but these details can help police identify the vehicle and resolve mismatches.
Applicable legal provisions
Section 173, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS)
Section 173 governs information relating to cognizable offences. Such information may be given orally or electronically irrespective of the area in which the offence occurred. Electronic information must be signed within three days to be taken on record under the provision. A copy of the recorded information must be provided free of cost to the informant or victim. A theft complaint may require formal FIR registration; merely checking an online vehicle database does not register an FIR.
Sections 175 and 176, BNSS
Section 175 concerns the power of police to investigate cognizable cases. Section 176 sets out the procedure for investigation, including reporting to the competent Magistrate and investigating the facts and circumstances where applicable. Recovery or seizure of a vehicle is handled through the relevant police and legal procedures, not simply through the status-search screen.

What if the vehicle is not found?
Recheck the district, police station, FIR number and year. The record may not yet be available in the online service, or the vehicle may be recorded under different particulars. Contact the police station handling the matter for confirmation. A negative search result must not be treated as a police clearance or a guarantee that a second-hand vehicle is not stolen.
How to report a stolen vehicle
Contact the police promptly and provide registration, ownership and incident details. The citizen portal also lists complaint services, but a complaint acknowledgment is not necessarily an FIR.
